A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in the outskirts of Bengaluru, as a 15-year-old teenager took her own life by leaping from the 20th floor of her residential complex in Kadugodi on Wednesday, authorities reported.
Identified as Avantika Chourasia, the teenager was a Class 10 student at a private CBSE school in Whitefield. Originally from Madhya Pradesh, her father is an engineer, while her mother is a homemaker.
Investigations suggest the girl was reprimanded by her mother for excessive phone usage instead of preparing for her upcoming exams, set to commence on February 15. Upset by the scolding, she allegedly made the fatal decision.
Law enforcement officials arrived at the location to collect evidence and initiate inquiries. An Unnatural Death Report (UDR) case has been registered. The parents’ formal statements are pending, and authorities are delving deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This tragedy follows two similar cases in the region. On February 4, a 24-year-old Bengaluru University postgraduate student was discovered deceased in her hostel at Jnana Bharathi. Studying for an M.A. in Kannada, she was from a village near H.D. Kote town.
Likewise, on February 6, 19-year-old Anamika Vineeth, a first-year nursing student from Kerala, was found dead in her Ramanagara hostel. Her parents alleged she was under intense pressure from the college administration.
These distressing incidents highlight the urgent need for mental health awareness and student support systems.
