Bengaluru: Three doctors were arrested in Bengaluru after a video showing them riding a two-wheeler while consuming alcohol on a busy road went viral, sparking outrage over reckless behaviour and public safety violations.

The incident took place on March 23 in BTM Layout, a bustling neighbourhood known for its dense traffic and large population of young professionals.

Viral video triggers action

The viral clip shows two men riding a motorbike in a dangerous manner, swerving through traffic. One of the pillion riders, wearing a helmet, is seen drinking from a beer bottle while the vehicle is in motion. The rider and another pillion passenger were reportedly not wearing helmets.

The video drew sharp criticism on social media, with users condemning the blatant disregard for road safety and the risk posed to other commuters, including pedestrians and motorists.

Police register case suo motu

Taking cognisance of the incident, the Bengaluru City Police registered a case suo motu and launched an investigation. Officials analysed the viral footage and scanned CCTV recordings from the surrounding areas to identify the individuals and the vehicle involved.

Following the probe, the three accused were traced and taken into custody. Police confirmed that all three are doctors employed at different private hospitals in the city.

Accused released on bail

After their arrest, the accused were produced before the authorities and later released on bail, as the offences registered against them are bailable in nature.

Police have not disclosed the identities of the accused but stated that appropriate legal action has been initiated under relevant provisions related to reckless driving and public safety violations.

Ongoing crackdown on traffic violations

Separately, the Bengaluru Traffic Police reported intensified enforcement efforts across the city. During a week-long special drive conducted between March 16 and March 22, officials registered 634 cases of drunken driving.

In addition, fines amounting to ₹1.29 lakh were collected for speeding violations, reflecting a continued push to curb dangerous driving practices.
