Three Women Detained at Bengaluru Airport for Forged Travel Documents
Three women from Andhra Pradesh were detained at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on November 19 after immigration officials discovered discrepancies in their travel documents. The women—Lakshmi Pasupuleti (53), Nagalakshmi (30), and Gondi Lakshmidevi (42)—were set to board an Oman Air flight to Muscat but were caught with fraudulent passports and visas.
The women claimed they were unaware that their documents were fake, explaining that they had arranged their travel through a Hyderabad-based agent who promised them legitimate employment opportunities abroad. They also shared that as widows supporting children and elderly parents, they had sought to work overseas to improve their financial situation.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that inconsistencies in their names and birth dates led to the discovery of the forged documents. Police have filed three separate cases against them under sections 336(2) (forgery) and 340(2) (using forged documents as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code. Efforts are now underway to locate the agents involved in the forgery racket.
