Bengaluru was battered by heavy rain and thunderstorms late Tuesday evening, causing widespread waterlogging and severe traffic disruptions across key parts of the city.

Though the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not issued an alert for Bengaluru itself, a yellow alert was announced for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mandya, and Kodagu districts, anticipating heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. In Bengaluru, light to moderate showers are expected to continue intermittently.

Heavy downpours triggered flooding in multiple low-lying areas, especially in north Bengaluru’s Hennur. Other affected zones included Richmond Town, BTM Layout, Sarjapur, Electronics City, Rajajinagar, and Marathahalli, where moderate to heavy rainfall was reported.

Maharani College underpass and Basaveshwara Circle witnessed knee-deep flooding, making navigation difficult for commuters. The Bengaluru Traffic Police issued multiple advisories, cautioning about slow traffic and urging motorists to avoid submerged routes.

“Traffic is slow from Bommanahalli to Rupena Agrahara on Hosur Road,” one advisory warned. Congestion was also severe along the Electronic City flyover, especially near Singasandra Metro Station.

In RR Nagar and Kengeri, residents experienced loud thunder and lightning, though rain was less intense. Weather expert Dr. Pradeep noted rainfall of up to 85 mm in some pockets, intensifying concerns about flooding and traffic paralysis as monsoon season gains momentum.

Social media was flooded with visuals of submerged roads and stranded vehicles, with citizens once again demanding lasting infrastructure fixes to Bengaluru’s chronic rain-related challenges.
