Bengaluru: Amid fear that human-wildlife conflict and international smuggling is posing a threat to the big cats, a survey carried out inside the MM Hills wildlife range has revealed that there has been a three fold increase in the number of tiger population.
According to the forest department sources, in January 2018 the forest department carried out a tiger census in the wild life range. The survey report is now made public after sceintific analysis. As per the report, 18 big cats are inside the range as against just six that inhabited the area six years ago.
“These numbers are confirmed after analysing the camera trap and other pictures,” said forest department authorities. This wild life range is spread over 906 square kilometers and it was notified as the wild life range in the year 2013.
“At the time of the census, a tigress appeared with its four cubs. This is the example for how tiger population is increasing in the range,” explained authorities.
