Tragedy Near KIA: Speeding Bus Overturns, One Dead, Dozens Injured
A bus ferrying private company workers overturned near the CISF signal at Begur, close to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), on Tuesday afternoon. The mishap claimed the life of Santosh Yadav, 35, a roller operator from Rampur Chaubey, Uttar Pradesh, employed by Ashoka Buildcon.
The incident occurred around 12:56 PM when the vehicle, carrying about 40 Ashoka Buildcon staff, lost control while taking a sharp left turn near Galamma Circle. The driver, Nazeer Ahmed, 38, was allegedly speeding and swerved into the far-right lane, hitting a divider. The bus flipped and dragged for nearly 10 metres before coming to rest.
Preliminary reports suggest the workers were en route from the airport to their PG accommodation in Kadayarappanahalli for lunch. The employees are part of a team working on the western crossfield taxiway project, linking KIA’s north and south runways.
Roughly 34 individuals suffered injuries; one is critically hurt and two are in intensive care. Of the injured, nine are receiving treatment at Manipal Hospital, Hebbal, and 25 were shifted to Akash Hospital in Devanahalli, where Yadav succumbed to his injuries. One patient has already been discharged.
Police have filed a case against the driver under multiple BNS sections, including rash driving and causing death due to negligence. The overturned vehicle caused traffic delays for nearly an hour before being removed using a crane.
