Srinagar: A tragic accident at Zojila Pass in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district claimed the lives of three tourists from Bengaluru and critically injured another on Monday. The vehicle carrying the tourists plunged into a deep gorge near Panimatha while traveling from Sonamarg to the zero point, according to police reports.

The deceased have been identified as Champak Das (67), Tandra Das (44), and Monalisha Dass (41), all from Bengaluru. Eight-year-old Aadrita Khan survived the crash but sustained critical injuries and has been referred to the super specialty SKIMS hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

“A joint rescue operation is being conducted by the J&K police, Army, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and CRPF,” an official stated. The rescue teams have been working diligently to retrieve the bodies and provide necessary aid to the injured.

The accident underscores the dangers of travel on the treacherous mountain roads in the region. Zojila Pass, a vital link between Srinagar and Leh, is known for its challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions, which often make driving hazardous.
