Bengaluru: A training programme organised by the assembly speaker’s office for the newly elected MLAs to help them understand about the parliamentary system, responsibilities of the elected representatives, rules and regulations etc, on Thursday, at the Vikasa Soudha failed as most of the newly elected MLAs didn’t turn up.

According to the sources, 78 MLAs of the present assembly are newly elected and this training session was organised for them. However, only 28 of them attended the event. If this was not enough, Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar was forced to wait for more than half an hour for the inauguration of the event due to the thin attendance.

According to the officials, as per the schedule, the event was supposed to be inaugurated at 10 AM. When Speaker Ramesh Kumar arrived with Basavaraja Horatti, chairman of the state legislative council only two MLAs were present. As a result inaugural event was postponed by half an hour.

Later, the event was inaugurated in the presence of 12 MLAs. By the time Ramesh Kumar and Horatti concluded their speech the number increased to 28 and the remaining 50 MLAs didn’t turn up for any session.
