Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has raised strong concerns over recurring attacks on BMTC personnel, urging Bengaluru Police Commissioner to take swift and strict action. In a letter sent on Sunday, the minister referenced two recent assaults reported under Bellandur police limits, including an incident where a woman techie allegedly hit a bus driver with her slippers after he didn’t stop at her preferred location. An FIR has been registered in this case.

Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, Reddy mentioned life-threatening attacks, including a driver being stabbed with a knife in a separate case. He recalled having previously communicated the matter to the police commissioner and directed the BMTC managing director to submit a detailed report in person.

“Despite these steps, it is disturbing that another such attack occurred just two days ago,” Reddy stated, emphasizing that ensuring the safety of public transport staff — be it BMTC, KSRTC, or other corporations — is a non-negotiable duty.

The minister clarified that any misconduct by staff is dealt with firmly upon complaint and due investigation. However, he condemned the public for resorting to violence, stressing that taking the law into one’s own hands is unacceptable.
