Tumkur: The Election Commission’s surveillance squads and police officials have seized over Rs 2.98 crore unaccounted cash from a private bus, during routine checks in view of the coming assembly elections in Karnataka.
The cash, mostly in denominations of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 were seized from the sleeper coach bus, belonging to Gajanana Motor Transport in the wee hours of Tuesday at Jas Tollgate in the outskirts of the city.
Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted the raid and seized the cash. District Superintendent of Police Dr Divya Gopinath said, ‘Passengers, cleaners and drivers were questioned if the the money belonged to any of them. But no one came forward to tell that money belonged to them’.
The police have been conducting further inquiries to find source of the money. The case was registered at Kyatsandra police station.
