Tumakuru: Bus hits divider, five dead in hirehalli

Tumakuru: Five persons were killed on the spot and over eight others were seriously injured when a speeding private bus rammed into a road divider and jumped into a car on National Highway – 48 near Hirehalli on Friday April 14.

The deceased have been identified as Govinda Nayaka (58), Thippamma (52), Dinesh (12), Pinki (15) and Rajesh (15), a resident of Kunigal Taluk.

The deceased Govinda Nayaka is originally a resident of Challakere Taluk. He was staying with his wife at Vijayanagara in Bengaluru. The private bus, which was on its way from Sira side to Bengaluru, lost control of the driver and jumped over the road divider and collided head-on with an Innova car which was on its way to Jalore from Bengaluru. As a result, five of the occupants of the car died on the spot.

The car was completely crushed and the front of the bus was also damaged when it jumped into the road divider. As soon as the news of the incident came to light, the Katsandra Police rushed to the spot and took out the bodies trapped in the car and worked hard to shift them to the mortuary of the District Hospital.
