Bengaluru police recently arrested two men involved in sandalwood smuggling, recovering more than 260kg of sandalwood logs worth Rs 20 lakh. The arrests followed investigations into two separate cases from Jnanabharati and Subramanyapura.

In the Jnanabharati case, Sakaiah alias Saka (33) was arrested after a phone left behind at the scene helped trace him. He had been previously arrested in 2015 and 2017 for similar offenses. In this incident, he was caught chopping sandalwood trees on the university campus, accompanied by three others who managed to flee.

In the second case, police arrested KV Sharath (26), a truck driver from Piriyapatna, after recovering 146kg of sandalwood logs. Sharath had arrived in Bengaluru with a mini-goods truck loaded with logs to sell.
