Two from Surathkal held for stealing service pistol

Bengaluru: The Yelahanka Satellite Town police have arrested two robbers for stealing a service pistol from a head constable of City Armed Reserve. The police have identified the accused as Dhanush alias Dhanu, 19, Kulayi Vanagatti of Surathkal and Vijay alias Anjaneya, 21, Ashraya Colony, Surathkal in Mangalore district.“A special police team from Bengaluru arrested the accused in Mangalore. The police team detained the accused on a suspicion. The accused have confessed to stealing service pistol from the police constable. While stealing the pistol, the accused did not know the victim is a police constable,’’ Praveen Sood, Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, told media persons.

The police have recovered 16 mobile phones along with the service pistol from the accused. “It was found that duo was involved in robbery and theft in Mangalore. They came to Bangalore on a two-wheeler from Mangalore on February 23 and took a room at a lodge situated at Yeshwanthpur in Bangalore North,’’ Praveen Sood said.

According to police, the accused have stolen the service pistol from Narasimha Murthy, head constable of City Armed Reserve when the latter was lying unconscious on Major Unnikrishnan Road. The head constable was posted as a gunman for Pilla Muniswamappa, MLA from Devanahalli for the last three years. The MLA, while going to a resort, asked the head constable to go home in an autorickshaw. “The head constable, on the way to home, got down from the autorickshaw to attend a nature’s call and fell unconscious. The autorickshaw driver abandoned the police constable. The accused happened to pass through the same road while looking for prospective victims. They saw the police constable lying unconscious and made away with the service pistol and Rs 6,500 cash,’’ Praveen Sood said.

The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 379 of Indian Penal Code.
