Two held for extortion, Rs 36.3 lakh recovered

Bengaluru: The police have arrested two people on extortion charge in Bengaluru south. The police have identified the accused as Gurumurthy (31), a cab driver and his associate Prakash T.

Double-murder: Police arrest three-1According to the police, Gurumurthy was working as a driver for a businessman and quit the job one year ago. Gurumurthy, along with his associate Prakash, had hatched a plan to exhort money from his former employer as he was in financial crisis. The police said that Gurumurthy had allegedly taken a huge loan and was unable to repay when the financiers started demanding him to repay the loan.

The police said the accused Gurumurthy allegedly used a SIM card borrowed from a friend to make the calls to his former employer. He allegedly told the businessman that there was a contract to kill him and demanded the latter to give him Rs 90 lakh. The police said the businessman handed over Rs 90 lakh to the accused on September 1.

It is said the accused again demanded the victim to give Rs 25 lakh and it made the victim to approach Channammanakere Achukattu police. Based on the call detail records the police nabbed the accused. The police recovered Rs 36.3 lakh from the accused. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
