Bengaluru: Two major hotel chains of Bengaluru city i.e. Adigas and Sagar have applied for the Indira canteen tender. Monday was the last date to apply for tenders.
According to the BBMP officials, who have floated the tender for running these subsidised canteens, with the participation of these two major hotel chains, they are now confident of launching the project successfully.
“Earlier it was assumed that no one may come forward to run these canteens due to various operational issues. But tender process proved that hotel chains are interested in joining hands with us,” explained sources.
According to the sources, the BBMP wants to supply breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner to 1.30 lakh people on daily basis. “We want to shortlist the tender per assembly constituency. Five assembly segments are reserved for women Self Help Groups. We are confident of launching the project by August,” sources informed.
Canteen sites not finalised: However, the BBMP is struggling to finalise canteen sites in atleast 74 wards. “We are able to finalise canteen building sites only in 124 wards,” said an officer.
