Bengaluru police have cracked a two-month-old murder case initially registered as an unnatural death, with the arrest of the victim’s cousin. On May 10, a decomposed body was found in a Varthur stormwater drain. The victim, Vikas Bahaddur Bista, had been missing for 10 days. His wife, Sushma Gurang, believed he had gone for work and didn’t file a complaint until a friend told her that Vikas’s cousin, also named Vikas Bahaddur, had confessed to the killing.

Police said the two were drinking when a quarrel erupted over Bista allegedly assaulting his wife. The cousin later attacked Bista with a rod and dumped his body. On receiving the tip-off, police arrested the 25-year-old accused on June 11. Sushma’s persistence in pursuing the truth helped bring the culprit to justice.
