Uber Launches Women-Only Bike Service in Bengaluru

Uber has unveiled the ‘Moto Women’ service in Bengaluru, offering bike rides exclusively for women. The initiative, launched on Thursday, addresses safety and privacy concerns while creating flexible income opportunities for women drivers. Over 300 women drivers have already joined the platform.

Uber stated that the service was inspired by feedback from female riders who expressed a preference for women drivers or fellow passengers. The service integrates robust safety measures, such as real-time trip sharing with up to five contacts, anonymized phone numbers and destinations, and alerts for route deviations or prolonged stops, ensuring a secure experience for users.

The initiative also aims to empower more women to join the workforce as bike taxi drivers. According to Uber, studies by KPMG and Oxford Economics reveal the potential for bike taxis to generate 5.4 million job opportunities across India. Moto Women drivers retain the flexibility to accept regular rides by disabling the women-only mode, offering versatility in their work.

Uber plans to double the number of women drivers in this service by early 2025, further boosting employment and enhancing safety for women commuters. The move highlights a growing focus on gender-inclusive mobility solutions and innovative transportation options.
