The first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach has been officially unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at BEML’s Bengaluru facility. The new coach will undergo a 10-day test run before further track testing. If successful, it is expected to be operational for the public within the next three months.
Key Details:
- Speed: The sleeper variant is designed to achieve an average speed of 160 kmph, with a test speed of 180 kmph. This offers a notable improvement in speed compared to the Rajdhani Express.
- Coach Composition: The train will feature 4 AC 2-tier coaches (188 berths), 11 AC 3-tier coaches (611 berths), and 1 AC First Class Coach (24 berths).
- Features: It includes world-class amenities such as GFRP panels, sensor-based interiors, automatic passenger doors, an ergonomically designed toilet system, communication doors, and a spacious luggage room.
Comparative Advantage: The Vande Bharat sleeper is touted to provide enhanced comfort and efficiency for long-distance travel, surpassing the current standards set by Rajdhani Express and other models.
