Bengaluru: The Veerashaiva and Lingayat leaders who met at medical education minister Dr. Sharan Prakask Patil’s residence in the city failed to come to any consensus on the separate religion issue. Meeting decided to form an expert committee to submit a report.
According to the leaders who participated in the meeting, Veerashaiva Mahasabha president Shyamanuru Shivashankarappa, ministers Sharan Prakash Patil, Vinay Kulkarni, Eshwara Khandre, MLC Basavaraja Horatti and others were present in the meeting, which lasted for three hours. But as both the factions stuck to their arguments, no decision was taken in the meeting.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Veerashaiva Mahasabha president Shyamanuru Shivashankarappa said, “all of us have decided to maintain the unity of the veerashaiva society. We have decided to form a committee of experts to solve the various difference of opinion,” he said.
But Horatti refuted his statement stating meeting was incomplete.
Meanwhile, meeting also decided to hold second round of talks between both the factions next week in Sharan Prakash Patil’s residence again.
