Bengaluru: If you have stylish taglines or fancy numbers on your vehicle number plate, then it’s better to remove them at the earliest or you will surely fall under the scanner of the traffic police.
That’s right, the new guidelines published by the traffic department bans all kinds of fancy numbers, taglines, radium stickers on two-wheelers or four-wheeler number plates. The police, now is all out to slap fines and register complaints against the offenders.
The police had registered 97,000 cases and collected over Rs 97 Lakh in fines in the last four months from those found displaying imperfect number plates.
Many people are found to print the name of their organisations along with their designations in the number plate. Some even put poems, verse, and taglines using radium stickers in the number plate. Moreover, these kinds of vehicles are often used in anti-social activities as it is difficult to make out numbers of these vehicles either directly or through CCTV footage.
Complaints have been received from few organisations and crime branch police about vehicles provided to government departments under contract basis being used for criminal activities. A special drive is being carried out in the city on this basis. Vehicles registered under the name of a government servant or the government itself will be allowed to put their designation or name of the department above the number plate. However, there is no option of using Kannada in number plates, said a senior officer of the department.
The front and rear portion of the vehicles should mandatorily bear the number plates and the same should be readable. Transport carriages are required to print the number on the inside as well so that it is visible to the passengers.
Few other guidelines are mentioned below:
For motor vehicles: Number plate thickness should be 65 mm, space 10 mm
Two and three-wheelers (front): 200 x 100 mm
Passenger car: 340 x 200 mm or 500 x 120 mm
Goods vehicles (medium and heavy): 340 x 200 mm
Two and three-wheelers (Not for transport) (rear): 35 height, 7 thickness and 5 space (mm)
Two and three-wheelers (Not for transport) (rear): 40 height, 7 thickness and 5 space (mm)
70 cc two-wheelers: Height 15, thickness 15, space 2.5
Two-wheeler and three-wheelers: Front side height 30, thickness 5, space 5 (mm)
Three-wheelers (within 500 CC): 35 height, 7 thickness, 5 space (mm)
Three-wheeler (above 500 cc): 40 height, 7 thickness, 5 space (mm)
The number plates of the two-wheelers should be black and white. The number plates of commercial purpose vehicles should be in black letters on a yellow plate.
