Bengaluru: The City police has still not sniffed out the source of Rs 1.97 Crore cash belonging to an advocate seized from a private car in Vidhana Soudha premises. The advocate in question, H M Siddarth has not been able to furnish any documentary evidence to substantiate his claim over the seized cash even a week after the incident. However, he has agreed to cough up Rs 80 lakh as fine to the Income Tax Department, according to reliable sources.

Karnataka adjudged as the 'Most Improved Big State'-1The sources confirmed that IT department has agreed in principle to close the case after collecting the penalty.

However, mystery still shrouds the source of big money with the police “still in dark” about it and the advocate not spilling the beans, revealed the sources.

Few allege that the cash seized was meant to be delivered to someone in high court and it belonged to a powerful state politician. In one of the press conferences, JDS State President H D Kumaraswamy had stated that BJP State President Yeddyurappa had information on the seized cash.

But Advocate Siddarth maintained that the cash seized was his own and he was planning to buy property using the same. He had also claimed that two of his friends Rajendra and Gaffar had given him Rs 20 Lakh and Rs 1.25 Crore for the same purpose. He was moving in the car with the cash for over 2 hours as renovation works were in progress at his office on the day it was seized, fearing robbery.

Meanwhile, the case is in 8th ACMM Court and investigations are in progress.
