Bengaluru: The Vidhana Soudha police on Tuesday arrested a 22-year-old unemployed youth from Maddur, who had called the city police control room on Monday and claimed that a bomb was planted in Vidhana Soudha and the planetarium.
The police have identified the accused as Sridhar. The accused had made the call from a mobile phone and had introduced himself as Nagaraj.
Based on a complaint, the Vidhana Soudha police tracked down the mobile number and picked up Sridhar, who confessed that he made the call using his friend Nagaraj’s name, to get him into trouble. Nagaraj had lent him money and was pestering him to repay it. According to the police, the accused is a PU dropout and used to con people on the pretext of helping them get government jobs.
He made a similar promise to Nagaraj and took money from him, without fulfilling his promise.
When Nagaraj started demanding the money back, Sridhar threatened to implicate him in a case claiming to have influence in the Police Department.
The accused has been taken into custody for questioning to ascertain his criminal background.
