A viral video showing electric wires sparking and bursting during heavy rain in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar area has triggered widespread concern online over the city’s ageing infrastructure and electrical safety.

The 13-second clip was shared on X by Niket Raj Dwivedi, founder of Medial, during Thursday evening’s intense pre-monsoon showers that affected several parts of Bengaluru.

Video captures sparks during heavy rain

The video showed an electric pole repeatedly sparking before the wires appeared to burst amid heavy rainfall. Sharing the clip online, Dwivedi wrote, “Heavy rains in Indiranagar and of course electric wires go brrrr.”

The incident comes as strong winds and heavy showers disrupted normal life across Bengaluru, with several roads witnessing waterlogging and traffic congestion. Areas including MG Road, Richmond Circle, Ulsoor, Old Airport Road, Gandhinagar and Majestic reported intense rainfall.

Social media users quickly reacted to the video, with many expressing concern over exposed wiring and public safety risks during monsoon conditions.

“One should check pole wiring regularly,” one user commented, while another pointed out that the wires appeared exposed before the short circuit occurred.

Monsoon concerns grow in Bengaluru

The viral clip has once again highlighted recurring civic and infrastructure concerns in Bengaluru during the monsoon season, particularly related to electrical hazards, flooding and traffic disruptions.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Bengaluru in the coming days. Wind speeds may reach up to 40 kmph in isolated areas, officials said.

The weather department has also issued alerts for coastal Karnataka, warning of frequent thunderstorms and strong winds between May 22 and May 24.

Authorities have advised residents and commuters to remain cautious during heavy rain and avoid standing near electric poles or exposed wires.#Bengaluru #Indiranagar #RainAlert #Monsoon #ElectricWires #Infrastructure #ViralVideo #newskarnataka
