Virat Kohli-owned pub and restaurant, One 8 Commune in Bengaluru, is facing legal trouble once again—this time for not maintaining a designated smoking area, as mandated by law.

Cubbon Park Police have filed a suo-motu case against the establishment under Sections 4 and 21 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). According to the Act, public places must provide specific zones for smoking to prevent passive smoke exposure. The restaurant’s failure to comply has prompted this legal action.

This isn’t the first time One 8 Commune has been on the radar. In June 2023, a case was registered against the venue for operating past permitted hours, violating city regulations. Later in December, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued a notice after discovering the restaurant was functioning without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Fire Department.

These repeated lapses have raised concerns among civic authorities about compliance and public safety measures at high-profile venues. The recent case has sparked renewed scrutiny of popular hangouts across the city, especially those frequented by the youth and tourists.

While the restaurant has not released an official statement yet, legal proceedings are expected to follow. City officials indicate further inspections of similar establishments may be conducted in the coming weeks.

The case highlights the growing focus on enforcing public health laws and holding even celebrity-owned ventures accountable.
