BENGALURU: Customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) have arrested a visually impaired man for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold worth ₹3.44 crore from Dubai. Authorities confirmed the arrest on Friday but withheld the suspect’s identity.
Acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted the passenger upon his arrival on March 4. A thorough search led to the discovery of 3.995 kg of gold concealed under his shirt. “The seized gold, valued at ₹3,44,38,796, was hidden beneath the suspect’s clothing,” officials stated.
A case has been registered under anti-smuggling laws, and investigators are probing whether the suspect operated independently or was part of a larger syndicate.
The arrest follows closely on the heels of Kannada actress Ranya Rao’s detention at KIA for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kg of gold worth ₹12.56 crore.
