Bengaluru: Now that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has got most of the suspects in the Gauri Lankesh murder in their custody, they have finally been able to piece together and reconstruct what happened on that fateful night in September, 2017.
On the night of June 22, the SIT took Parashuram Waghmore, Lankesh’s alleged killer, to the scene of the crime at the journalist-activist’s house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The purpose of the visit was to reconstruct the events surrounding Lankesh’s death.
Waghmore was taken to Lankesh’s house at around 8 pm, the same time as Lankesh’s shooting on September 5, 2017. It is learnt that Waghmore was asked to ride a bike around the neighbourhood, just as he had allegedly done on the night of the murder. This helped the SIT figure out the routes used by the alleged killer to reach the house and escape.
According to investigators, Waghmore’s physical description matches the description mentioned in the forensic reports. He also confessed to the SIT that he had practised shooting and meeting the other conspirators at Belagavi and Sindagi.
