Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, April 14, announced an extension of the ongoing lockdown till May 3. During his speech, the PM covered a wide variety of topics from lockdown guidelines to asking the public to help the poor and the needy during these hard times.
One thing that the PM did not mention, something that the Congress caught on to, was the fact that PM Modi did not announce a package for the economy. He, however, asked the companies not to sack employees.
Reacting to the PM’s speech, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president and former state minister D K Shivakumar pointed out the former neither spoke of an economic package nor did he answer any of AICC interim-chief Sonia Gandhi’s several letters to him
Speaking to the media, DKShi said, “It is very unfortunate… it is shocking to all of us. We expected an economic package… that he would like to answer the Congress party president’s letters.”
He added that, although the party agreed with the health issues and respected the PM’s sentiments and concerns, they wanted answers on economic strength for the country. “We wanted economic strength to this country, strength to the farmers, strength to the labourers. We agree on all the health issues. We respect the sentiments, we respect his (PM Modi) concern, but at the same time the people of this country want to be very stable,” he said.
