Bengaluru: Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah assured the SC Bhovi community that if the Congress returns to power, it will accept the backward classes commission’s caste survey.
“When I was the Chief Minister, the commission conducted a socio-economic survey at a cost of Rs. 162 Crore. It has yet to be accepted by successive governments. We will accept it if we regain power, he said at the Bhovi community convention in Bannerghatta.
He said that the community has backed him in all of his elections and that he has set up the Bhovi Development Corporation.
He defended his claim of Aryan-Dravidian origin, saying, “When I revealed this information, I was labelled as anti-Hindu and anti-RSS,” but one should speak out strongly.”
Siddaamaiah praised the contribution of Nalwadi Krishnaraj Wadiyar in implementing the quota for the backward classes as early as 1917, despite opposition from the Mysuru empire’s then Dewan, saying he had given a quota in civil contract works for the SCs for the first time in the country.
He also highlighted the accomplishments he made as CM, including promotion reservations, a rise in funds for the SCP/TSP schemes, and a law penalising official who failed to spend the funds.
