Ramanagara : In a bizarre instance, a wedding failed to be solemnized as the bridegroom walked out midway during the wedding after the bride lost her consciousness and collapsed.

The incident occurred on Thursday, May 4 at Ramangara when the bride Chaitra, an MCA graduate lost her consciousness during the wedding rituals. The groom, Pradeep Kumar of Hosadoddi village in Kunigal taluk while walking out of the venue alleged that she had lost her consciousness due to fits.

It is gathered that the bride was exhausted after participating in a 3-hour long rituals on May 3 evening and had even skipped breakfast on the morning of her wedding. To add to her discomfort, she wore high-heeled footwear to match groom’s height. Several prenuptial rituals, photo shoot session, strong focus lights during video coverage had drained her completely and she collapsed before she could take part in the ‘Mahurtha’ ( Main wedding ritual).

While relatives and friends rushed to her aid and helped her regain consciousness immediately, Pradeep disappeared from the scene for a long time suspecting Chaitra to be suffering from epileptic disease.

Meanwhile, attempts by relatives and dignitaries to convince Pradeep to accept Chaitra in marriage on his return failed as he refused to budge. They did not want the marriage to break on a trivial issue but all reconciliatory efforts went in vain as Pradeep stood firm.

Unforeseen twist

In a sudden development, it is gathered that groom sought the hand of Chaitra’s sister in marriage on the occasion. Apart from this he also demanded an amount of Rs 10 lakhs as dowry in addition to the 200 grams of gold and a house site he had already taken from the family in the form of dowry for Chaitra’s marriage.

Distraught by the development, bride’s family decided to snap ties and demanded reimbursement of wedding expenses incurred by them for the wedding from groom’s family. In the presence of police, family members and elders, the groom’ s family reimbursed Rs one lakh in cash and issued a cheque for Rs five lakhs on the spot to bring curtains down on the bizarre wedding.

Pradeep Kumar, employee at Toyota Motor Company in Bidadi was engaged to Chaitra two months ago.

Meanwhile the bride’s family heaved a sigh of relief after the unsavoury incident as they felt their daughter was relieved from relationship with an uncouth man. Invitees, mainly women were seen whispering on the sidelines about the turn of events and sympathising with the bride.

“Instead of getting struck midway in life after marriage, she lost her balance in the beginning for good” were their apt words summarising the entire episode.
