Bengaluru: Believe it or not, Bengaluru police booked as many as 912 motorists in a span of mere five hours in the city on Saturday for drunken driving.

It is said that the Garden City is witnessing upward trend in road mishaps caused due to drunken driving and hence the cops plunged into action to sniff riders and drivers under influence of alcohol.

The Bengalureans were surely in the mood of merry-making on Saturday as it was not just a weekend, but incidentally, the government too had relaxed the norms for bars and restaurants in the city by permitting them to operate till 1 am on all days of the week.

It is said that officials tested over 10,000 drivers between 8 pm to 1 am and 912 offenders were booked, out of which highest cases were registered in western part of Bengaluru, running into 434 cases.

Sources said that the Bengaluru police have recommended the suspension of the driving licence of second time offenders.
