Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara responded on Saturday to accusations from the BJP, questioning whether atrocities against women did not occur during the BJP’s rule in the state. The minister’s comments follow the alleged gang rape of a Muslim woman involved in an interfaith relationship in Haveri.

The incident involved seven men who reportedly barged into a hotel room, attacking the couple in Hangal, Haveri district. The survivor claimed to have been gang-raped by the attackers. A case of gang rape has been registered by the police based on the victim’s complaint.

Addressing reporters, the Home Minister assured that the government is taking action against the accused within the legal framework. Parameshwara highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the state government for women’s safety, including programs under the Nirbhaya scheme.

In response to the BJP’s criticism, Parameshwara questioned whether crimes against women never occurred during the BJP’s rule in the state. He emphasized the government’s commitment to taking action and creating awareness whenever incidents of this nature take place.

The Karnataka BJP, criticizing the Congress government, argued that a surge in crimes against women reflects widespread lawlessness. They further claimed that criminals operate boldly without fearing police intervention.
