A post by Khushboo Verma on X has ignited a conversation about soaring flight prices between Delhi and Bengaluru. Verma expressed her shock and frustration over the sharp rise in airfare, noting that one-way tickets now cost ₹8,500, a steep increase from ₹3,500 in 2022, even with two weeks’ advance booking. The post reads, “What is this inflation? How are people affording it?”
The issue of rising airfares quickly gained attention, with users sharing their thoughts on the reasons behind the price hikes. Many pointed to the broader economic factors at play, such as rising fuel prices, inflation, and high demand in the aviation industry. Some users sympathized with Verma’s concerns, highlighting how airfares, like other goods and services, are impacted by inflation.
One user explained, “The real issue is oil prices, especially after the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Most airlines are operating at a loss.” Another user commented, “A family of 3 traveling during festivals will easily spend ₹50k just on flights.”
Others pointed out that the rise in airfares is part of a larger pattern, with increased costs in everything from cars to real estate. A commenter also noted that “the industry is overloaded with regulations, making it hard for competition to drive prices down.”
As inflation continues to affect air travel, many are turning to alternative modes of transport like road trips or trains to save money.
