Bengaluru: A woman found herself behind the bars, in connection to the theft committed by her a year back, after she updated her WhatsApp profile with a picture of her wearing the stolen ornaments. The update helped the police nab her and recover the stolen ornaments.
The arrested, Kavitha, a Srirampura resident, was working as a maid at one Sathyanarayana Rao’s residence in Malleshwaram. On May 11, 2017, Rao had lodged a theft complaint with the Srirampura police. In his complaint, he had stated that gold ornaments weighing 150 grams and silver weighing 2 kilograms had been stolen from his house.
As the police did not find anything conclusive in the CCTV footage or any other clues, they were unable to trace the thief. However, they had maintained a vigil on Kavitha. But, as there was no proof to indicate her involvement in the theft, they could do nothing at that time.
In July 2017, after Rao’s demise, his wife was staying home alone and Kavitha decided to quit the job.
But, the Srirampura police continued to keep an eye on Kavitha’s movements by tracking her number. They were even following her WhatsApp profile activities. Recently, she had updated her WhatsApp profile picture in which she was seen wearing several gold ornaments. The police swung into action and called upon the late Rao’s wife to gather details about the stolen items. Once it was learnt that these were the same ornaments that had been stolen from the residence, the police arrested Kavitha and recovered the booty.
