Bengaluru: In a bizarre incident, a woman took her husband to court alleging that he made her undergo a virginity and pregnancy test without her knowledge, as she vomited mere minutes after the two got hitched. She has accused him of suspecting her of infidelity and harassing her. The husband, however, has denied the allegations and has filed for divorce.

According to a report in the Times of India, sources at the Parihar family counselling centre (Vanitha Sahayavani) attached to Bengaluru city police, said that the husband, Sumith* (29), and wife, Radha* (26), are a couple from North Karnataka. They are both MBA graduates employed at reputed companies who met on a matrimonial site and decided to get married in November 2018, after only a few days of interaction, the sources added.

However, fifteen days before the wedding, Radha*, whose father had died long ago, lost her mother and went into depression. She spoke to one of her friends from her hometown about her woes, after which Sumith* began to suspect that she was unhappy with the marriage.

Due to a gastritis problem, Radha* vomited on their wedding day and her new husband immediately rushed her to a hospital. She signed some consent forms at the hospital without knowing their true nature as she assumed that Sumith* had brought her to the hospital because of her gastritis.

However, when the tests were almost complete, she found out that she was being tested for virginity and pregnancy and was horrified. Before leaving for her sister’s place soon after the tests were done, Radha* lashed out at Sumith* for making her undergo the tests without her knowledge. She continued to stay with her sister after their fall-out.

Sumith* went to the counselling centre three months after the incident, to file a complaint against his estranged wife. The counsellors at the centre then called Radha* in a bid to defuse the tension but were shocked when they heard her version of the events.

When subjected to a counselling session at the centre, Sumith* reportedly refused to respond.

Meanwhile, Radha* has filed a complaint with the police and the court against her estranged husband for harassment and suspicion of her fidelity.

Sources at the centre said that instead of consoling his wife, Sumith* took the illegal step of making her undergo tests without her knowledge. The sources added that the centre is providing Radha with the necessary help.
