Bengaluru: The central government is seriously contemplating banning Popular Front of India (PFI) after adverse reports against the organisation.

The decision to ban PFI is in the aftermath of reports received over the involving of its activists in communal violence and killings.

The Ministry of Home affairs and its officials in coordination with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has gathered all relevant information over the involvement of PFI in communal incidents and killings. The ban order from the central government may be issued soon.

There are concrete reports to suggest the involvement of PFI activists in the killings during communal incident. In addition, some are serving jail term over life threatening attacks over right wing activists. PFI is also accused of inciting communal tension in the two states.

The officials have already submitted information about the involvement of PFI in the incidents reported and the union government is likely to act soon.

Meanwhile, there are allegations of Centre attempting to appease majority Hindus to garner votes for BJP in the forthcoming assembly elections in Karnataka due in April/May 2018.

Karnataka Home minister Ramalinga Reddy stayed clear of ban formula for political gains citing the role of right wing activists in many murders. If the ban has to be imposed then even the right wing outfits too have to brought under its ambit, he had stated recently.
