Bengaluru: A woman has accused two policemen of entering her house with a group of people and taking away cash, gold jewellery and other valuables while responding to a domestic dispute in Bengaluru. The allegations have been denied by the police, who claim they were present only to maintain law and order during the exchange of belongings between a separated couple.
Woman files complaints against policemen
The complainant, Umera Jaffer, has submitted complaints to the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, seeking action against the policemen.
According to her complaint, a sub-inspector and another policeman from Varthur Police Station arrived at her residence in Prakash Layout on July 17, stating that there was a case registered against her son, Junaid Ahmed.
She alleged that the policemen took away 137 grams of gold jewellery, ₹5 lakh in cash, and other valuables from the house. She further claimed that a car, a superbike and a television set were damaged during the incident.
Police reject theft allegations
The policemen have strongly denied the allegations, maintaining that both families had requested police protection while exchanging belongings after the couple mutually decided to separate.
According to the police, they possess video evidence showing that the family voluntarily handed over 12 listed items, including expensive clothing, as part of the settlement.
Police further stated that the family declined to file a written complaint despite being asked to do so and that officers were present only to prevent any breach of peace.
Officials also claimed that the complainant appeared satisfied after the dispute was resolved and even offered drinking water to the officers. They alleged that the theft accusations surfaced nearly 10 days later and described them as false.
Authorities are expected to examine the complaints and evidence submitted by both sides before taking further action
