Woman diagnosed with cancer commits suicide; Police pay for final rites

Bengaluru: The Saptagiri Hospital of the city witnessed a beautiful moment on Friday when the police, who were investigating the suicide of a woman, paid money for her final rites as the family didn’t have enough money for the same.

The deceased, Lakshmamma (46), was a resident of the Kabbepalya village. She was married to a man from the Chikkaballapura district and the two worked as daily wage labourers. Unfortunately, her husband abandoned her after she was diagnosed with blood cancer.

She then committed suicide by hanging on Friday morning as she did not have enough money to pay for her treatment.

When the police handed her body over to her family after the post-mortem, they found out that they did not have enough money to give her a proper farewell. So, they collected money and gave it to the family so that they could perform the last rites.
