Bengaluru: A 24-year-old woman who was brutally stabbed at her residence in Bengaluru’s Jeevan Bima Nagar succumbed to her injuries on July 15 while undergoing treatment. Police have arrested two brothers in connection with the murder.
The deceased has been identified as Amrutha. According to the police, the attack took place on July 13, when the accused, Surya, allegedly went to her house following instructions from his elder brother Dhanush.
Investigators said the brothers had earlier contacted Amrutha’s brother, Tejas, threatening to “teach Amrutha a lesson for playing with his life.”
Attack followed argument at victim’s home
Police said Surya visited Amrutha’s residence, where an argument broke out with her mother. During the confrontation, he allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Amrutha.
Neighbours immediately rushed the injured woman to hospital. People present at the scene managed to overpower Surya and handed him over to the police.
Despite medical treatment, Amrutha died from her injuries on the evening of July 15, police confirmed.
Relationship dispute suspected as motive
Preliminary investigations revealed that Amrutha’s family and Dhanush’s family, both residents of Wilson Garden, had known each other for around three years after meeting at a religious gathering.
Police said Amrutha and Dhanush later became friends and entered into a relationship. However, the relationship ended in March, allegedly leading to tensions and disputes between the two families.
Following the reported threats made to Tejas and the fatal stabbing, police registered a murder case and arrested both Surya and Dhanush. Further investigation is underway.
Separate case: Police sub-inspector arrested
In a separate incident, Bengaluru Police arrested Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Byrappa on charges of domestic violence and dowry harassment. He is accused of repeatedly abusing his wife and allegedly threatening her family with a lethal weapon during a confrontation.
