A 26-year-old woman was reportedly harassed by a group of inebriated men in SRY Layout, near Bannerghatta, Bengaluru, on Sunday, prompting police to file a case and initiate arrest proceedings, according to Deccan Herald.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. when the woman was walking back from a grocery shop. She was accosted by three to four men, one of whom—identified as John—allegedly made inappropriate advances and requested sexual favours. When she resisted, John is said to have attempted to physically overpower her. The entire episode was recorded by a nearby CCTV camera.

Officials believe the group was under the influence of alcohol, though toxicology reports are awaited. The woman, though visibly distressed, did not suffer any serious physical harm, police confirmed.

After the encounter, the woman immediately contacted her gym trainer—a trusted friend—who rushed to the location. In a heated retaliation, he reportedly assaulted John. Both John and the trainer are now under police radar and are likely to be taken into custody shortly.

Police have booked the accused under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 74 (outraging a woman’s modesty), Section 126(2) (unlawful restraint), Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and Section 352 (assault).

John is presently receiving treatment under police supervision at a private hospital in the city. Authorities are pursuing the remaining culprits, and inquiries into both the harassment and the assault continue.
