Bengaluru: Women techies from prominent IT companies have dropped the recommendation of the legislature committee into the bin by vehemently opposing it, while bidding for their share of freedom at work during night hours.
Commenting on the proposals, a woman employee of city based Accenture showed her resentment over equal status with men at work place, especially in the IT sector. Aren’t harassment and sexual abuse during the day a possibility?, she questioned.
Expressing similar sentiments another employee said, “Company provides adequate security and excellent transport during night and working during night shifts has never been a problem.”
The government of the day is shirking its responsibility over security of women working in companies, mainly IT companies, said Clay Schools CEO Priya Krishnan.
Though media did not react strongly on the expected lines over the government’s decision to curb its freedom by forming legislature committee, women folk have not taken things lying down and have been more vocal. Only a handful of legislators like Dinesh Gundu Rao from Congress, Suresh Kumar from BJP and Vatal Nagaraj, an independent have aired their reservations over curbs on media. Opposing the curbs, Dinesh Gundu Rao, State Congress working President said, “People are mature enough today to opt for the food of their liking in a vibrant and 70-year-old democracy.” While Vatal questioned Speaker’s authority to form a committee, Suresh Kumar of BJP termed it as an unhealthy development in a democratic set up.
