Bengaluru: World famous Bengaluru Karaga scheduled on April 8 has been cancelled, following the Karnataka High Court denying permission for the same, on the grounds that the event may become breeding ground for COVID1-9.
After the order, a decision in this regard was taken after a meeting between CM BS Yediyurappa and ministers and MLAs from the city.
PR Ramesh, former mayor and MLC informed that earlier this celebration was cancelled when plague disease broke out in the city.
It can be recalled that earlier, the state government permitted the celebrations with few conditions.
However, this move of the government was criticised by many on the grounds that it may lead to spread of COVID-19.
A PIL was filed before the HC and on Tuesday, a divisional bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice BV Nagarathna denied permission for the same.
Soon, the government withdrew the permission.
Now, only closed-door rituals will be held as part of one of the oldest festivities that is celebrated in old parts of Bengaluru.
