Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Monday hosted lunch to around 100 people from 33 Dalit families at his Dollars’ Colony residence Davalagiri in Bengaluru.
These are families whose homes Yeddyurappa visited during his recently concluded tour of the state, Jan Sampark Abhiyan and with whom he had breakfast. “I have been treating all communities equally throughout my political career. I am very happy to receive around 100 Dalits and host lunch for them. Today is a memorable day in my life,’’ Yeddyurappa said.
The Dalits were received by Yeddyurappa and his family members. “I implemented Bhgyalakshmi scheme for the benefit of girls from Dalit families. I will continue visiting Dalit homes despite criticism from other political parties,’’ the BJP state president said.
He told the Dalits that he had personally seen their living conditions when he visited their homes. “I cannot forget your love and affection when I visited your homes,’’ he said.
Madara Chennaiah was the chief guest at the function. “Yeddyurappa’s love and principles remind me of the coordination between Basavanna and Madara Chennaiah in the 12th century. The Dalits who came here today never been to Bengaluru. Yeddyurappa’s gesture will convey a message to the country,’’ Madara Chennaiah said.
Earlier, the guests paid floral tributes to the photos of Bharath Matha, Babu Jagajivan Ram and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The guests were served an 18-course lunch. They were given new clothes.
The BJP has made arrangements to take the guests around Bengaluru in two buses.
