Bengaluru: The Bangalore University (Nagarabhavi campus) has made Yoga, spirituality, environment protection and waste management compulsory in colleges.
If this decision is implemented, it will become the first university to make Yoga, waste management etc compulsory in its affiliated colleges. As many as 270 colleges in and around Bengaluru are affiliated to the university.
The university’s vice-chancellor, K R Venugopal informed that all the affiliated colleges and departments have been asked to hold these classes compulsorily.
“I have issued a direction in this regard during a meeting of all the college principals. All the colleges gave been directed to open the Buddha, Vivekananda, Gandhi and Ambedkar study chairs,” he said.
Elaborating on the initiative, he said, “All the colleges need to hold one class a week on these subjects. It will be reviewed at the time of the Local Inquiry Committee’s (LIC) visit.”
