BIDAR: Frustration over a persistent water shortage led residents of Eklur village in Basavakalyan taluk to take a bold step — they locked Panchayat members inside the Gram Panchayat office to demand action.

The protest erupted as villagers, angry over irregular water supply (sometimes unavailable even once a week), cornered local leaders. Those detained included Panchayat Vice President Jagannath Domme, members Kalyanrao Mudabe and Tulsirama Kambale, and family members of female members.

Villagers accused the officials of negligence in addressing their drinking water woes. After heated discussions, the Panchayat president assured that steps would be taken within a week to resolve the issue. Only then were the officials released.

This unique protest underscores the dire situation and mounting impatience over governance failures.
