“BJP Demands Resignation of Priyank Kharge and CBI Inquiry into Contractor’s Suicide”
On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called for the resignation of Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge and demanded a CBI inquiry into the suicide of a civil contractor from Bidar district, who took his life on December 26. BJP State President B. Y. Vijayendra alleged that the Kharge family had significant influence over the police department in Kalaburagi, and that an impartial investigation would not be possible. Vijayendra expressed concerns that the local police could not conduct an unbiased probe, stating, “The Kharge family is very powerful, and the state police cannot investigate them, and there is no possibility of impartial investigation.” He further demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ensure Priyank Kharge’s resignation immediately. Vijayendra also emphasized that the matter should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a transparent inquiry. The BJP has also threatened to protest at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Kalaburagi if their demands are not addressed by January 3. The contractor’s suicide note mentioned a demand for a substantial sum, which has fueled the controversy surrounding the case.
