Eight Arrested for Kidnapping and Assaulting Photographer in Belagavi
The Malmaruti police in Belagavi took eight individuals into custody on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a photographer, Umesh Hosur, from Bailhongal. The incident reportedly stemmed from false accusations that Umesh had blackmailed a woman with her personal photographs.
According to sources, the accused, led by a man named Vicky, lured Umesh into his car near KPTCL Hall in Nehru Nagar, then abducted him. The group transported Umesh to Chivatanagundi Cross in Bailhongal taluk, where they attacked him with a rod. Following the assault, they took him to the woman’s residence, where her family members further assaulted him before releasing him with threats on his life.
After receiving treatment at the BIMS district government hospital, Umesh filed a complaint at the Malmaruti police station. In his complaint, Umesh clarified that the accusation of blackmail was fabricated by the accused, stating the attack was actually related to an old grudge. The police are currently interrogating the arrested individuals.
