Bidar: A woman in Karnataka’s Bidar district has been arrested for allegedly killing her six-year-old stepdaughter by pushing her from the terrace of a three-storey building near their residence, police said on Monday. The incident occurred on August 27, but only came to light more than two weeks later when a neighbour spotted the act in CCTV footage.

Crime hidden for over two weeks

According to police, the woman allegedly pushed the child from the terrace of a building close to their home. At the time, the death was believed to be accidental, and no foul play was suspected. However, on September 13, one of the neighbours reviewed CCTV recordings from cameras installed near the building and discovered evidence of the crime.

Neighbour alerted authorities

The neighbour immediately informed the family and local residents, after which the police were alerted. Based on the footage and subsequent investigation, police confirmed that the child’s stepmother was responsible for the fatal act.

Motive under investigation

The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is under way to determine the motive behind the crime. Police officials stated that initial inquiries point to strained family relations as a possible reason, but they are awaiting a full report before confirming details.

Community in shock

The incident has shocked residents of the locality, who had initially believed the girl’s death to be a tragic accident. Authorities are now reviewing whether there were any earlier complaints or warning signs of domestic conflict in the family.
