Kundapur:  Nine fishermen, who were on a fishing expedition in the sea, had a miraculous escape as they were spotted by fishermen in the vicinity after their boat got hit by a sea wave and capsized about five nautical miles away from Koderi port.

The incident took place on Friday at Byndur taluk of Udupi district. The boat engine was completely damaged, causing an estimated loss of Rs 2 lakh.

9 fishermen went fishing in a country boat named Sridurgaparashwari owned by Pundaleeka of Palyadar Topu Purshuyya of Uppunda village. While fishing in the sea, the boat got hit by a wave, capsized, and sank. As the information was received immediately, the fishermen rushed to the incident site by another boat and rescued the fishermen who were in danger. Fishermen heave a sigh of relief when a major disaster is missed by a hair’s breadth.
MLA of Byndur Constituency Gururaj Gantihole has made a request to use life jacket while going fishing. This is the second ferry disaster in less than a week.
