Sirsi: In a significant boost to rural connectivity, MP Vishweshwar Hegade Kageri inaugurated a new BSNL tower in Handjaddi, Kalve in Sirsi taluk on Friday. This tower is part of the government’s ambitious 4G saturation project aimed at enhancing mobile network coverage in underdeveloped areas.
During the inauguration, Kageri announced the initiation of new tower construction under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) project, designed to further improve network access in the hilly terrains of Malenadu. The plan includes a total of 233 4G towers for the district, of which 11 have already been installed with the latest 4G technology.
The MP identified 242 locations across various towns including Shirasi, Karwar, Ankola, Kumata, Honnavar, Bhatkala, Supa, Haliyala, and Yallapur for enhanced network coverage. Despite the geographical and logistical challenges posed by forested areas and land availability, 59 towers have been successfully constructed, with work ongoing to address remaining issues.
Kageri also addressed the issue of frequent power outages affecting BSNL towers in rural regions. He revealed that government approval has been secured for new batteries and generators to ensure continuous service, mitigating the impact of power disruptions on network availability.
The MP underscored the critical need for improved network connectivity in rural areas and assured the public of ongoing efforts to overcome challenges and expand coverage. The event was attended by BSNL officials and local dignitaries, reflecting the government’s dedication to bridging the digital divide in the region.
The expansion of network infrastructure is expected to significantly enhance communication capabilities in rural Uttara Kannada, fostering better connectivity and access to digital services for residents in these underserved areas.
