K.M. Nagaraju (60), a well-known coordinator of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) hailing from Kempanapur village, tragically lost his life in a road mishap in Chamarajanagar on Sunday morning.
The fatal accident occurred at Sultan Sharif Circle when Nagaraju was riding his two-wheeler along Gundlupet Road. As he approached the circle, a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus arrived from behind at considerable speed. The bus’s front wheel struck his bike, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the road.
Tragically, Nagaraju became wedged beneath his motorcycle and sustained grievous injuries as the heavy vehicle rolled over part of the bike. Witnesses said the roadway was soaked in blood following the impact, creating a horrifying scene for bystanders.
Local residents rushed to assist and called for emergency help. Despite efforts to move him swiftly, Nagaraju succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital for treatment.
Senior police officials, including DySP Lakshmanaiah, Town Police Inspector Basavaraju, Sub-Inspector Ayyanagowda, and Traffic Sub-Inspector Hanumantha Uppara, visited the location soon after the incident to conduct a spot inspection and gather preliminary evidence.
The Chamarajanagar Traffic Police have filed a formal complaint and begun further investigation to ascertain the precise sequence of events and determine liability. The sudden demise of Nagaraju has left the local Dalit community and social activists deeply shocked and grieving.
